Free AI Music Generators (and the Commercial-Use Catch)

Details checked against official pages and announcements on October 12, 2026. AI music rules and licenses change quickly, so check the linked official pages, especially before using music commercially.

AI can now turn a short text description into a song with vocals, or into background music for a video. It's fun for experimenting, but there's one thing to understand before you publish anything: free plans often don't include commercial rights. Here are the main free options and what you can and can't do with the results.

1. Google Gemini music creation (Lyria)

Google added music creation to the Gemini app in February 2026. You describe a mood, genre or idea, and Gemini creates a track with custom cover art. In September 2026 Google upgraded it to Lyria 3.5, which it calls its "best-sounding music generation model," with more expressive vocals and a choice of short or longer tracks.

  • Who can use it: Google said music creation is available to users 18+ in several languages, and that Lyria 3.5 "is available to all users globally" on web and mobile.
  • Limits: Google says Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers get higher limits, so free users have lower ones. Google doesn't publish exact numbers.
  • Watermark: every track includes SynthID, Google's invisible watermark for identifying AI-generated content.

2. Suno

Suno is one of the most popular AI song generators, known for full songs with vocals and lyrics. Its free plan gives you 50 credits per day.

  • Commercial use: Suno's pricing page states "No commercial rights" for the free plan, so you shouldn't use free-plan songs in monetized videos or products.
  • Downloads: the free plan lists "No monthly song downloads."
  • Paid option: Pro is $8/month and Premier is $24/month, with discounts for yearly billing.

Need music for a monetized video?

If you're publishing on a monetized YouTube channel, a sponsored post or a business video, free AI music can be risky. Safer options:

  • Use the licensed music library inside your video editor, such as Clipchamp or Canva, under that platform's terms.
  • Use a paid AI music plan that clearly includes commercial rights.
  • Use music from libraries that explicitly allow free use in monetized videos, and keep a note of the license.

Tips for better AI songs

  • Be specific. "Upbeat acoustic folk, female vocals, about a road trip, 100 BPM" works better than "a happy song".
  • Write your own lyrics for something truly personal, then let the AI handle the music.
  • Generate several versions and pick the best one.
  • Don't imitate real artists. Avoid prompts that copy a specific singer's voice or a famous song. That can raise copyright and likeness issues.
  • Label AI music when you share it, as many platforms ask creators to disclose realistic AI content.
